Enlist the help of these weatherproof products to protect home exteriors during the winter season

The winter season is fast approaching, and as the days grow shorter and the weather gets colder, homeowners across the U.S. are hunkering down and preparing for many frigid days to come. But while interior spaces offer a cozy respite from the ice and snow, home exteriors and outdoor living areas are exposed to the winter elements for months on end.

Luckily, these products ensure that decks, entryways, and home facades are well-equipped to weather any winter storm and minimize spring repairs and renovations.

Millboard decking can be used on pool decks, walkways, patios, and even in garden beds, and products are available in styles ranging from clean modern sleek boards to farmhouse style 100-year-old plus rustic boards.

Window, Siding, and Door Sealant DAP amp sealant

DAP's AMP All Weather Window, Siding, and Door Sealant protects doors, windows, siding, and other exterior surfaces from water leakage during the winter months with a weatherproof polymer formula. DAP’s newest product delivers a waterproof and mold and mildew resistant seal for windows, doors, siding, trim, gutter, flashing, and concrete, the company says.

It also has a 30-minute paint and rain/water ready time, so homeowners can touch-up exteriors even in the rain or snow. The sealant line includes a kitchen and bath-specific formulation for interior touch-up needs as well.

Weather Resistant Casing Bead AMICO speed bead

Alabama Metal Industries Corporation’s (AMICO) newly released SPEED BEAD is a self-adhering weather resistant casing bead with a built-in backer rod. The SPEED BEAD creates a weatherproof seal around windows, doors, and openings to eliminate the need for caulk on veneer stone and stucco applications.

The sealant’s design uses AMICO’s patented SPEED BOND adhesive which is specifically designed for bonding plastics in extreme temperature outdoor applications ranging from -40 to 212 degrees Fahrenheit, making it an optimal product for winter homes.

Weatherproof Domes Domespaces backyard

Dyester Corp and Domespaces by Barry Sendach recently launched 'Home in a Dome,' a customizable and scalable container that covers outdoor living spaces and comes equipped with all necessary fixings, sliding doors, vents, and windows. Domes are available in 20 and 39 foot containers and are fully transportable to allow homeowners to make the most of their outdoor living areas year round.

‘Home in a Dome’ is resistant to high winds, rain, and snow, protecting and enclosing the largest volume of interior space with the least amount of surface area, the company says. All domes are free-standing and circulate air without obstruction for natural heating and cooling.

Hemp Insulation Hemp wool insulation

Manufactured by Hempitecture, HempWool is a one-to-one replacement for conventional insulation materials like fiberglass, mineral wool, and spray foam. Made of 90% natural fiber (industrial hemp), HempWool has no VOCs or toxins like formaldehyde, glass fibers, and asbestos, making it a safer and more eco-friendly alternative to traditional insulation.

Not only is HempWool a sustainable choice for homeowners, but it’s also vapor permeable and hygroscopic to prevent airborne moisture movement and resist mold. The high thermal inertia of HempWool makes it a phase-shift-resistant material, helping to regulate the interior temperature of a residential structure to keep homes warm even on the coldest winter days.
