Window company Pella has capped an active two years of acquisition, announcing recently that it has bought luxury wood window and door manufacturer Duratherm Windows Corporation.

“It was a pleasant surprise to me when I received a call from Pella, especially since I wasn’t actively seeking to sell the business,” says Tim Downing, president of Duratherm. “This partnership creates exciting possibilities for Duratherm. With Pella’s involvement, we will continue to be trailblazers within the architectural community and grow.”

Based in Vassalboro, Maine, Duratherm produces custom hardwood windows and doors that are often used by such high-end firms as Estes/Twombly, Anmahian Winton Architects, Aamodt Plumb Architects, Wheeler Kearns, William McDonough & Partners, and Tod Williams Billie Tsien Associates, among many others. The company is known especially for producing window and door products with two different species—one on the exterior and another on the interior.

Pella says Duratherm will remain under the leadership of Tim Downing and maintain its brand and attention in the luxury marketplace. Over time, the company will be integrated into the Pella Crafted Luxury collection.

“We’ve acquired Duratherm for Duratherm,” says Tim Yaggi, president and CEO of Pella. “Our goal is to support their endeavors and help the team do more of what they already do exceptionally well. Duratherm rounds out Pella’s collection of elite brands and expands our geographic footprint on both the east and west coasts.”

The Duratherm deal is the third high-profile Pella has closed since 2015, when it bought Grabill Windows & Doors and Reilly Windows & Doors, which the company acquired in July 2016.
