Native Trails Introduces Composite Stone Trough Sink for Small Spaces

Kitchen and bath products manufacturer Native Trails has added a 30-inch bathroom trough sink to its NativeStone collection of products.

Previously only available in 48-inch and 36-inch versions, this smaller size option allows the trough sink to suit petite powder rooms, narrow single vanities, and smaller bathrooms, the San Luis Obispo, Calif.-based company says.

“We are excited to reveal a new size offering that allows our customers more flexibility in their design process,” says Naomi Neilson, founder and CEO of Native Trails. “The trough sink incorporates artisan craftsmanship and sustainability, while providing a sleek focal point to modern industrial-inspired bathrooms, large or small.”

Offering an outside dimension of 30 inches by 19 inches and measuring 5 inches deep, the Trough 3019 is made from Native Trails’ combination of natural jute fiber and cement so it’s lighter, stronger, and far more sustainable than standard concrete, the company says.

NativeStone, the company explains, is “a breakthrough combination of natural jute fiber and cement. By adding jute – a natural, renewable vegetable fiber – to the proprietary concrete blend, Native Trails has reinvented concrete. NativeStone is 40 percent lighter, much stronger, and far more sustainable than traditional concrete products. It makes use of natural resources, generates less waste, and requires less energy than ordinary concrete production.”

Because the sink has less heft, it makes the sink easier to install and less expensive to ship than traditional concrete. Due to its handcrafted nature, each sink is a one-of-a-kind piece as no two sinks are exactly the same. Trough sinks are expertly hand-formed, giving each piece its own personality as an irreplaceable work of functional art, the company adds.

Offering a sleek focal point in modern industrial-inspired bathrooms, the trough sinks are available in four finishes: Ash, a light gray color with natural mottling; Slate, a rich, dark grey; Pearl, a luminescent cream color; and Earth, a warm, natural brown-gray. Each sink is sealed using the NativeStone Shield, which penetrates concrete on a molecular level to create a protective, yet integrated barrier against stains and scratching. The stain-resistant, non-toxic coating reserves concrete from discoloration and wear.

“NativeStone Shield penetrates concrete on a molecular level to create a protective, yet integrated barrier against stains and scratching,” the company explains. “While all NativeStone products come pre-sealed, this exclusive sealer is now available for application on heavily used NativeStone sinks or bathtubs to ensure years of protection.”

Founded in 1996, Native Trails was built on the foundation of Neilson’s passion for artisan tradition, sustainability, and fair trade practices to bring the work of undiscovered artisans from central Mexico to living spaces throughout North America. The company is known for its hand-hammered recycled copper sinks, but it has since expanded into NativeStone concrete sinks and bathtubs, bath vanities made of reclaimed wood and metals, a range of home decor products, and spun-glass Italian sinks.
