A New Wireless Smoke + Carbon Monoxide Alarm

Onelink smoke and carbon monoxide detector

Home safety products company First Alert has introduced a two-in-one Wi-Fi-enabled smoke and carbon monoxide detector that is compatible with other interconnected hardwired alarms within the home.

Onelink uses Wi-Fi technology to communicate with the user via the Onelink Home app as well as with other popular connected home platforms, such as Apple HomeKit, Google Home, and Amazon Alexa.

In the event of a fire or carbon monoxide emergency, the alarm will sound and send push notifications to the user’s mobile device. The company says voice and location technology also will alert users to the type of danger and its location.

“One key differentiator between Onelink and other smart alarms is that Onelink is compatible with other non-WiFi-enabled interconnected hardwired alarms within the home—making the goal of a connected home much more attainable and cost-effective for the homeowner,” the company says. “In fact, installing just one Onelink alarm with other hardwired devices will still give homeowners all the protection and benefits of Onelink, without the cost, hassle, or time of having to install all smart alarms.”

The company says future generations of the unit will be designed to include embedded Alexa, where users can interact with Amazon’s virtual assistant through actual the alarm, asking it questions, controlling their smart home devices, playing music, and more.
