‘Unprecedented Design Freedom’ from Revamped Kartell by Laufen Bath Collection

Swiss bathroom brand Laufen and Italian design company Kartell joined forces once again to expand their line of bathroom plumbing fixtures and furnishings that promote design capabilities with “no limitations.”

Combining fashion-forward Italian and minimalist Swiss design influences, the Kartell by Laufen collection offers subtle yet bold bathroom furnishings to create a fluid space that meets a homeowner’s  physical and emotional needs.

“Over the years, the bathroom has gone through remarkable evolution, from a space relegated to one corner of the home organized to ensure healthy personal hygiene, to a welcoming setting in line with the latest trends in interior design,” according to the company’s announcement. “The bathroom keeps pace with the progress of tastes and the transformations of our lifestyles, and the Kartell by Laufen collection, with its rigorous forms, offers the freedom to combine the lightness of transparency with the solid, robust presence of ceramics.”

Kartell and Laufen are widely recognized and respected manufacturers in their respective industries. Kartell, founded in 1949, focuses on plastic materials and manufacturing innovations. Laufen, founded in the 1890s, has mastered ceramics and bathroom solutions. Laufen pioneered the idea of ceramic sanitaryware in Switzerland, says the brand.

The pair debuted its first Kartell by Laufen collection in 2013, designed by Milan-based design team Ludovica + Roberto Palomba, which featured ceramic washbasins, transparent polycarbonate bathroom furnishings, accessories, lights, and mirrors. In the revamped version, designed by the same pair, the brands introduce new hues for its accessories, faucet taps, and mixers, finishes, toilet, bidet, bathtub, and new styles of its ceramic washbasins.

The hallmark of the original Kartell by Laufen products were the transparent, vividly colored polycarbonate accessories juxtaposed with modern white and gray ceramic washbasin and vanity designs.

This year, the design pair introduced mustard yellow, ochre, and blue-gray vanity cabinet colors with corresponding linen cabinets, and black and anthracite gray ceramic. Matte and soft-touch finishes also were  introduced this year, adding another level of contemporary design.

The modular features of many of the collection’s products allow for design without limits, says the brand. One such product, the Sound-Rack storage systems, is made from transparent polycarbonate in several bright colors and can be customized for any storage need. Its composition helps to continue the Kartell by Laufen theme of juxtaposed products that enable design freedom and personalization.

In addition, different vanity sizes and configurations can be specified to fit in bathrooms of any size. Vanity sizes begin at a single-piece washstand up to a large vanity with ample counter space; they are constructed from thin ceramic, resulting in a very light furnishing with a large internal surface.

The collection’s new rimless toilet and bidet set can be mounted to the wall or floor with or without a tank. Kartell by Laufen says the toilet and bidet’s designs stand out because of their uniquely linear form.

New faucet taps and mixers can be mixed and matched with faucet works, and the design opens the door to many product pairings because of its minimal form and smooth curves. Such forms seen in the faucets, washbasins, mirror, and toilet contrast the vanity’s sleek geometric (and modular) composition and complements large washbasins or tubs, the company says.
