Wide Planks, Distressed Looks Rule Wood and Bamboo Flooring

Homeowners who select wood flooring at Uptown Floors in Bonita Springs, Fla., are looking for planks with “character,” says owner Ken Fisher. His top sellers: planks measuring 5 to 10 inches wide, with a mildly distressed finish and a dark brown stain. The preferences are showing at showrooms across the country.

His top sellers: planks measuring 5 to 10 inches wide, with a mildly distressed finish and a dark brown stain. The preferences are showing at showrooms across the country.

The same is true in Shreveport, La., where remodeler Jeb Breithaupt of JEB Design/Build says his clients want a “rich look” and most often settle for wide planks sporting stains as dark as black coffee.

Brian Jones, vice president of product management, wood for Armstrong Flooring, confirms that longer and wider planks, along with random widths, are “the most on-trend looks in home interiors today.”
